Dance To Be Free Event

Inspired by my work with the non-profit, Dance To Be Free (DTBF), this event is a fully immersive opportunity to explore personal freedom and expression. Available in both a workshop (90 min) and class (60 min) option, participants will dance to cathartic music - experiencing the same healing exercises I've helped teach to those in prison under DTBF.


Far too often, we find ourselves living in self-imposed prisons - limiting our lives and dampening our spirits. Dance is a way to safely explore and express emotions. Breath-work and other healing exercises deepen the experience by connecting us with our true selves. The DTBF Event is a unique way to experience the same kind of healing so many " women on the inside" have experienced.


FAQ:

  • Are the movements hard? Relax - no previous dance experience needed! If you like to move and love music, this event is for you.
  • What can I hope to gain out of this? An experience that allows room for self-expression and connection and promotes healing from the inside out.
  • What's the difference between the workshop and class version? Same exercises... slightly different format. The workshop runs an hour and a half - allowing more time for interaction between participants and discussion. I'll be sharing both stories and take-aways of my seven years teaching with DTBF. The one-hour class version will be more reminiscent of a typical exercise class you might take at a studio or health club. This includes a warm-up as a class and cooldown.
  • What do I need to bring or provide? Bring your desire to express yourself authentically! You can choose to dance barefoot or with shoes.

Healing Yoga

Based on the teachings of AVITA, these sessions create the opportunity for healing on the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual level. In this hour-long session we meet ourselves right where we are and allow the restrictions in the mind and body to resolve themselves gently.


Undoing unhealthy movement and thought patterns is possible in these quiet and deeply relaxing sessions. While lying on the floor, Katherine will guide you through simple movements intended to strengthen bones and support stability in the joints. We maintain a meditative state of mind throughout the session by focusing on the body sensations and trusting ourselves to heal whatever needs to be healed. These sessions will leave you feeling deeply relaxed and connected to yourself. By calming the nervous system, we invite a sense of peace in the mind, body and spirit.

  • Who can benefit? Accessible to almost anyone, these sessions are ideal for people looking for grounded, peaceful movement.
  • What can I hope to gain from this session? Stability, balance, and a healthier response to stressful situations.
  • What are my session options? These sessions work best one-on-one to tailor to your individual needs and concerns. They can be conducted both in-person and remotely through Zoom.
  • What do I need to bring or provide? A yoga mat, comfortable clothes, and a wall (for some of the movements).

Foundation Training

Foundation Training (FT) consists of simple body-weight exercises targeting the muscles responsible for supporting movement. In this hour-long session, we focus on strengthening the back, hips, glutes, and legs -  creating a more stable infrastructure.


Everything we do is either building us up, making us stronger, or breaking us down, leading to back pain and poor posture. We have a choice - we can either allow gravity and life to pull us down or we can actively strengthen our entire body with simple exercises. With consistent practice, these exercises train our body to move through life in a way that leads to strength and confidence.


FAQ:

  • Who can benefit from FT? EVERYONE! Seriously, everyone - from inactive folks dealing with chronic pain to competitive athletes seeking peak performance.
  • What can I hope to gain from this session? Better posture and balance as you go through your daily activities - whether that be sitting behind a desk, going on a bike ride, or picking up a heavy load.
  • What are my session options? While best done one-on-one, I also offer small group classes.
  • What do I need to bring or provide? No equipment needed beyond a yoga mat.
